Palamaner is a 3rd Grade Municipality in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh State. The area of the Municipality is 28.13 sq. Kms. It is, geographically, located at 13012’18’’ Northern Latitude and 780 44’ 28” Eastern Longitude. The town is at an attitude of 680 meters above mean sea level. The Chennai-Bangalore National Highway (NH4) passes through the town. The town is located at a distance of 40 KM from the district head quarters of Chittoor. The minimum temperature hovers between 12 and 28 degrees all round the year. The climate here varies seasonally and is invariably moderate which makes the inhabitants uncomplaining. The town is very important education centre with the existence of Govt. Degree College, Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Junior Colleges, High Schools, Elementary Schools and the Mother Terissa College for Degree, Post Graduation, B.Ed and Engineering Courses. It is famous for Siva Temple at Mogili near 10 Km, Lord venkateswara temple at Keelapatla near 8 Km, Siddi Vinayaka Temple at Kanipakkam near 30 Km, Anjaneya Swamy Temple at Ardagiri (Aragonda) near 26 Km. Palamaner is also known as Milk City of South India / Poor men’s Oaty / Cocoon town.
Government Polytechnic for Women at Palamaner, was sanctioned vide G.O.Ms.No.303 of Labour Employment Nutrition and Technical Education (TE.I) Department, A.P., Dated: 14-8-1984 under 7th Five Year Plan period. The Director of Technical Education has established the Government Polytechnic for Women at Palamaner in Chittoor District during the annual plan 1985-86. The Polytechnic offers the Diploma Courses in 4 disciplines, covering Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Commercial & Computer Practice. The Diploma programs prepare students for entry-level employment in various professional disciplines, and for study at an advanced level.
At present, the following Diploma Courses with the annual intake sanctioned against each are being run at this Institute.

The Diploma programs in Civil Engineering, Commercial & Computer Practice, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering are accredited by the State Board of Technical Education & Training (SBTET), Andhra Pradesh.
The Polytechnic Premises is in an extent of 8.6 acres of land and The Polytechnic buildings comprise Academic Block, Hostel Block -1, Hostel Block – 2, Principal Quarter, Lecturers’ Quarters, Class IV Employees Quarters.
The Institute successfully coordinated and completed MODROBS and centrally sponsored UPGRADATION schemes which incredibly supported the laboratory and other infrastructural facilities in this Institute. A new Women’s hostel has been constructed with the aid of Rs. 100 lakhs from MHRD funds. However, A Proposal has been submitted to the Technical Education Department for construction of a 3 floor RCC building to meet additional accommodation for labs, library, Computer centre etc.
The activities like sports & games, medical camps, yoga awareness camp, clean & green and Swatch Bharath programs are organized at this Institute. Similarly, the Engineers’ Day, Teachers’ Day, Malala Day, Freshers’ Day are being celebrated at this Institute. The Institute has been showing excellent interest in the student welfare, career and academic counseling activities.
